దేశంలోనే మొట్టమొదటి భూ విజ్ఞాన శాస్త్ర (Earth Sciences) విశ్వవిద్యాలయానికి ముఖ్యమంత్రి శ్రీ రేవంత్ రెడ్డి గారు ప్రారంభోత్సవం చేశారు. ప్రజా పాలన విజయోత్సవాల కార్యక్రమాల్లో భాగంగా భద్రాద్రి కొత్తగూడెంలో నెలకొల్పిన ఈ విశ్వవిద్యాలయానికి ప్రముఖ ఆర్థిక వేత్త, మాజీ ప్రధానమంత్రి డాక్టర్ మన్మోహన్ సింగ్ గారి (Dr Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University of Telangana) పేరు పెట్టారు.
కొత్తగూడెంలో నిర్వహించిన ప్రజా పాలన – ప్రజా విజయోత్సవాల కార్యక్రమంలో ఉప ముఖ్యమంత్రి మల్లు భట్టి విక్రమార్క గారు, మంత్రులు తుమ్మల నాగేశ్వరరావు గారు, పొంగులేటి శ్రీనివాసరెడ్డి గారు, వాకిటి శ్రీహరి గారితో పాటు ఉమ్మడి ఖమ్మం జిల్లాకు చెందిన ప్రజా ప్రతినిధులు పాల్గొన్నారు.
ఈ సందర్భంగా ముఖ్యమంత్రి గారు మాట్లాడుతూ.. ఆరు దశాబ్దాల కిందట తెలంగాణ స్వరాష్ట్ర ఆకాంక్ష మొట్టమొదటగా పాల్వంచ, కొత్తగూడెం ప్రాంతంలోనే పునాది పడిందన్న విషయాలను గుర్తుచేశారు. తెలంగాణ ఆకాంక్షను ప్రధానమంత్రిగా డాక్టర్ మన్మోహన్ సింగ్ గారు నెరవేర్చిన నేపథ్యంలో యూనివర్సిటీకి వారి పేరు పెట్టినట్టు వివరించారు.
దేశాన్ని సంక్షోభం నుంచి సంక్షేమం దిశగా నడిపించిన ప్రధానమంత్రి డాక్టర్ మన్మోహన్ సింగ్ గారని ప్రశంసించారు. దేశాన్ని ప్రగతి పథంలో నడిపించాలని పండిత్ జవహర్ లాల్ నెహ్రూ గారి స్ఫూర్తితోనే ప్రజా ప్రభుత్వం విద్య, నీటి పారుదల రంగాలకు ప్రాధాన్యతనిస్తోందని చెప్పారు.
ఉమ్మడి ఖమ్మం జిల్లాలోని అపారమైన ఖనిజ సంపదను గుర్తించడంతో పాటు సింగరేణి లాంటి పేరొందిన సంస్థలున్న ప్రాంతంలో ఖనిజ సంపదను గుర్తించడంతో పాటు పరిశోధన కోసం ఎర్త్ సైన్సెస్ యూనివర్సిటీ ఆఫ్ తెలంగాణ (DrMMSESUT) ను ఇక్కడ నెలకొల్పామని చెప్పారు.
ఉమ్మడి ఖమ్మం జిల్లాలో పదేండ్లుగా నిర్లక్ష్యానికి గురైన నీటి పారుదల ప్రాజెక్టులను పూర్తి చేస్తామన్నారు. ఈ జిల్లాను అభివృద్ధి వైపు నడిపించే బాధ్యత ప్రభుత్వం తీసుకుంటుందని చెప్పారు.
తెలంగాణను దేశంలోనే అగ్రస్థానంలో నిలబెట్టాలన్న సంకల్పంతో విద్య, నీటి పారుదల రంగాలకు అధిక ప్రాధాన్యత ఇస్తున్నామని ముఖ్యమంత్రి గారు చెప్పారు.
Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri A. Revanth Reddy inaugurates India’s first Earth Sciences University — Dr Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University of Telangana — at Kothagudem, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, under the Praja Palana governance initiatives.
The programme was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Vakiti Srihari, and prominent public representatives from the erstwhile Khammam district.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister recalled that the foundation of Telangana’s statehood was first laid in the Palvancha–Kothagudem region over six decades ago. He explained that the university has been named after the esteemed economist and former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, who played a pivotal role in fulfilling the aspiration for Telangana’s statehood.
The Chief Minister lauded Dr Manmohan Singh for guiding the nation from economic challenges to sustained growth. Drawing inspiration from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s vision, he emphasized that the government is prioritizing education and irrigation as key sectors to propel Telangana towards holistic development.
Highlighting the region’s rich mineral resources and its significance as the home of institutions like Singareni, he said that the Dr Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University of Telangana will serve as a centre of excellence for mineral research, exploration, and scientific advancement.
Assuring development for the erstwhile Khammam district, he stated that long-pending irrigation projects neglected for a decade will be completed, reflecting the government’s commitment to the region’s progress.
Reaffirming the State’s vision, the Chief Minister underlined that Telangana is moving forward with determination to emerge as a leading state in the country, with education and irrigation receiving top priority.
