రాష్ట్రాల శాసనసభలకు పోటీ చేసే వయో పరిమితిని 25 నుంచి 21 ఏళ్ల తగ్గించాల్సిన అవసరం ఉందని ముఖ్యమంత్రి శ్రీ రేవంత్ రెడ్డి గారు అభిప్రాయపడ్డారు. ఇందుకు సంబంధించి రాష్ట్ర శాసనసభలో తీర్మానం చేస్తామని ప్రకటించారు.
మాజీ ప్రధానమంత్రి రాజీవ్ గాంధీ సద్భావనా యాత్ర సంస్మరణ దినోత్సవం పురస్కరించుకుని సంస్మరణ కమిటీ చార్మినార్ వద్ద ఏర్పాటు చేసిన కార్యక్రమంలో ముఖ్యమంత్రి గారు పాల్గొని ప్రసంగించారు. వివిధ రంగాల్లో విశేష సేవలు అందించిన నాయకుడు, కేంద్ర మాజీ మంత్రి సల్మాన్ ఖుర్షీద్ గారికి ఈ సందర్భంగా సద్భావనా అవార్డును బహూకరించి సత్కరించారు.
ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో ముఖ్యమంత్రి గారు మాట్లాడుతూ, దేశ పరిపాలనా యంత్రాంగంలో 21 ఏళ్లకు ఐఏఎస్, ఐపీఎస్ అధికారులుగా కీలక పాత్ర పోషిస్తున్నప్పుడు అసెంబ్లీకి పోటీ చేసే వయసును 21 ఏళ్లకు ఎందుకు తగ్గించరాదని ప్రశ్నించారు.
ప్రభుత్వాలను నిర్ణయించే అధికారం యువతకు ఉండాలన్న సంకల్పంతో రాజీవ్ గాంధీ గారు ఓటు హక్కు వయ పరిమితిని 21 ఏళ్ల నుంచి 18 ఏళ్లకు తగ్గించారని గుర్తు చేశారు. అదే క్రమంలో ఇప్పుడు అసెంబ్లీకి పోటీ చేసే వయసును 25 నుంచి 21 ఏళ్లకు తగ్గించాల్సిన అవసరం ఉందని చెప్పారు.
దేశ సమగ్రతను, సమైక్యతను కాపాడటానికి రాజీవ్ గాంధీ గారి త్యాగాలను గుర్తు చేస్తూ, గడిచిన 35 ఏళ్లుగా క్రమం తప్పకుండా సద్భావనా యాత్ర సంస్మరణ కార్యక్రమాన్ని జరుపుతున్న నిర్వాహకులకు ముఖ్యమంత్రి గారు అభినందనలు తెలిపారు.
మంత్రి ఉత్తమ్ కుమార్ రెడ్డి గారి అధ్యక్షతన జరిగిన ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో మంత్రి పొంగులేటి శ్రీనివాస రెడ్డి గారు, సలహాదారులు షబ్బీర్ అలీ గారు, హర్కర వేణుగోపాలరావు గారు, ప్రణాళికా సంఘం ఉపాధ్యక్షుడు చిన్నారెడ్డి గారు, ఎమ్మెల్సీ, పీసీసీ అధ్యక్షుడు బొమ్మ మహేష్ కుమార్ గౌడ్ గారితో పాటు ఇతర ప్రజా ప్రతినిధులు పాల్గొన్నారు.
Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy has suggested that the age limit for contesting state legislative assembly elections be reduced from 25 to 21 years, announcing that a resolution in this regard will be introduced in the state assembly.
The Chief Minister participated in and addressed a program organized by the Memorial Committee at Charminar to commemorate the Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Day of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. On this occasion, Leader and former Union Minister Salman Khurshid, recognized for his distinguished service in various fields, was felicitated with the Sadbhavana Award.
Speaking at the program, the Chief Minister questioned why the age for contesting assembly elections should remain 25 when IAS and IPS officers assume significant administrative responsibilities at the age of 21. Recalling that Rajiv Gandhi had lowered the voting age from 21 to 18 to empower the youth in shaping governments, he emphasized that now the age for contesting assembly elections should similarly be reduced.
Remembering Rajiv Gandhi’s sacrifices for national unity and integrity, the Chief Minister congratulated the organizers of the Sadbhavana Yatra commemoration, which has been held regularly for the past 35 years.
The program was chaired by Minister Shri Uttam Kumar Reddy, and attended by Minister Shri Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, advisors Shabbir Ali and Harkara Venugopal Rao, Planning Commission Vice Chairman Chinna Reddy, MLC and PCC President Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud, along with other public representatives.
