మాజీ ప్రధానమంత్రి స్వర్గీయ రాజీవ్ గాంధీ స్ఫూర్తితో రాష్ట్రాల శాసనసభలకు పోటీ చేసే వయో పరిమితిని 25 ఏళ్ల నుంచి 21 సంవత్సరాలకు తగ్గించేందుకు తమవంతు కృషి చేస్తామని ముఖ్యమంత్రి శ్రీ రేవంత్ రెడ్డి గారు చెప్పారు.
దేశ భవిష్యత్తును నిర్ణయించే అధికారం యువత చేతుల్లో ఉండాలన్న ఉద్దేశంతోనే రాజీవ్ గాంధీ గారు ఓటు హక్కు పరిమితిని 21 ఏళ్ల నుంచి 18 ఏళ్లకు తగ్గించారని, అదే స్ఫూర్తితో చట్ట సభల్లో పోటీ చేయడానికి వయో పరిమితిని 21 సంవత్సరాలకు తగ్గించాల్సిన అవసరం ఉందని అన్నారు.
భారతరత్న రాజీవ్ గాంధీ గారి జయంతిని పురస్కరించుకుని డాక్టర్ బీఆర్ అంబేద్కర్ రాష్ట్ర సచివాలయం ఎదురుగా ఉన్న వారి విగ్రహానికి ముఖ్యమంత్రి గారు పుష్పాంజలి ఘటించారు. మంత్రులు, ప్రజాప్రతినిధులు పాల్గొన్న ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో ముఖ్యమంత్రి గారు మాట్లాడుతూ.. ఈ దేశంలో యువతకు అవకాశాలు కల్పించడానికి రాజీవ్ గాంధీ గారు అనేక కార్యక్రమాలు చేపట్టారని గుర్తుచేశారు.
“చట్ట సభల్లో మహిళలకు సముచితమైన స్థానం కల్పించినప్పుడే సమస్యలపై చర్చించి పరిష్కరించడానికి వీలు కలుగుతుందన్న సంకల్పంతో స్థానిక సంస్థల్లో మహిళా రిజర్వేషన్లకు పునాది వేశారు. గాంధీ వారసత్వాన్ని పుణికిపుచ్చుకున్న రాజీవ్ గాంధీ దేశంలో పారదర్శకమైన పరిపాలన, నిరుపేదలకు సంక్షేమ పథకాలు చేరడానికి ప్రభుత్వ నిర్ణయాల్లో సాంకేతిక నైపుణ్యాన్ని జోడించారు.
రాజీవ్ గాంధీ గారు కంప్యూటర్, టెలికాం రంగాల్లో తీసుకొచ్చిన సాంకేతిక సంస్కరణల వల్ల ఈరోజు తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల ప్రజలు ప్రపంచంతో పోటీ పడుతున్నారు. రాజీవ్ గాంధీ హయాంలో హైటెక్ సిటీకి వేసిన పునాది రాయి నేపథ్యం నుంచి క్రమేపీ హైదరాబాద్ ఈరోజు ఐటీ కంపెనీలు, డేటా, జీసీసీ సెంటర్లకు కేంద్రంగా, దేశంలోనే మొట్టమొదటి సిటీగా మారింది.
వారి స్పూర్తితోనే హైదరాబాద్ నగరాన్ని ప్రపంచ శ్రేణి అభివృద్ధి చెందిన నగరంగా తీర్చిదిద్దుతాం. అమరుడైన రాజీవ్ గాంధీ గారి స్ఫూర్తితో ప్రభుత్వం ముందుకు పోతుంది. వారిని ఆదర్శంగా తీసుకునే గుండెకాయ లాంటి సచివాలయం ముందు వారి విగ్రహాన్ని ప్రతిష్టించుకున్నాం..” అని ముఖ్యమంత్రి గారు అన్నారు.
ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో మంత్రులు పొన్నం ప్రభాకర్ గారు, పొంగులేటి శ్రీనివాసరెడ్డి గారు, సలహాదారులు వేం నరేందర్ రెడ్డి గారు, షబ్బీర్ అలీ గారు, ఎంపీ అనిల్ కుమార్ యాదవ్ గారు, ఎమ్మెల్సీ, పీసీసీ అధ్యక్షుడు మహేష్ కుమార్ గౌడ్ గారితో పాటు పలువురు ప్రజాప్రతినిధులు పాల్గొన్నారు.
Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy stated that efforts will be made to reduce the minimum age for contesting elections to State Legislative Assemblies from 25 years to 21 years, drawing inspiration from former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Late Rajiv Gandhi. He recalled how Rajiv Gandhi had reduced the voting age from 21 years to 18 years, entrusting the youth with the power to shape the nation’s future. In the same spirit, he said, young people must be given the opportunity to contest elections from the age of 21.
On the occasion of Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary, the Chief Minister, along with ministers and public representatives, offered floral tributes at his statue in front of the State Secretariat. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted Rajiv Gandhi’s vision and initiatives for empowering youth across the country.
The Chief Minister recalled that Rajiv Gandhi laid the foundation for reserving seats for women in local bodies, with the conviction that women must have a rightful place in legislatures to ensure meaningful discussions and effective resolutions. He praised Rajiv Gandhi for combining Gandhian values with modern technical expertise, bringing transparency to governance and implementing welfare programmes for the poor.
He further noted that thanks to Rajiv Gandhi’s technological reforms in the computer and telecom sectors, the people of the Telugu states are today competing with the world. The laying of the foundation stone for Hi-Tech City during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure paved the way for Hyderabad to emerge as India’s first hub for IT companies, data centres, and GCCs.
Drawing inspiration from Rajiv Gandhi, the Chief Minister assured that his government is committed to making Hyderabad a truly world-class city. He said the installation of Rajiv Gandhi’s statue in front of the heart-shaped Secretariat reflects the government’s commitment to upholding his ideals.
Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Advisors Vem Narender Reddy, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, MP Anil Kumar yadav, MLC and PCC President Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud, along with several public representatives, participated in the programme.
