Planning department mainly deals with formulation of annual plans and five year plans, preparation of state plan budget and socio-economic survey report, reviewing and monitoring of plan schemes, evaluation of important schemes/ programmes .The department als​​o implements programmes like special development fund for welfare and developmental activities, constituency development programme (MLAs/MLCs), district innovation fund under 13th finance commission grants monitoring of flagship programmes of the Government of India, Twenty Point Programme, MPLAD, Integrated Action Plan for Left Wing Extremism districts.​

Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS)
Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) is an autonomous academic institution, serving the state of Telangana.  Its main objective is to undertake broad based multi-disciplinary social science research by bringing appropriate teams to work on a particular developmental issue.  Subsequently, the results are also disseminated to wider public amongst scientists, policy makers, academicians and public at large 
 
Telangana State Remote Applications Centre (TRAC)
Telangana State Remote Applications Centre, as a nodal agency has been maintaining centralized satellite data bank in digital form for the entire state.  It has been providing services in mapping, monitoring and modeling of natural resources, using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and catering to the needs of various Government Departments like Irrigation and Command Area Department, Agriculture, Rural Development, Disaster Relief, Survey Settlements & Land Records, Panchayat Raj, Groundwater, Forest, Mines, Urban Development, Health, Civil Supplies, Information Technology, Town and Country Planning, police etc. 
 
TRAC provides critical technological help to several major initiatives of Government like Water Grid, CADA, minor irrigation tanks, disaster assessment and mitigation, village information system with cadastral data and acreage and productivity of various crops and identification of ground water potential under National Drinking Water Mission and the proposed Drinking Water Grid. TRAC is also providing necessary inputs to the State Government during the emergencies like cyclones, floods, earthquakes, draught, Tsunami etc. 
 
Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS)
The main objectives of the Society are:

  1. To implement the outputs of the Hazard Mitigation (HM) & ECRP
  2. starting Early warning c​enter
  3. To implement Delta Water and Watershed Management Plan
  4. Preparation of Hazard Maps
  5. Development of action plans for vulnerability reduction
  6. Development of standards for risk reduction
  7. To raise awareness to stake holders by imparting regular training.
  8. To develop inter-departmental co-ordination to implement risk reduction.

  • Conferences / Workshops / Stakeholder Consultations, Awareness Seminars & Dissemination of Village-wise Vulnerability Maps

Evaluation Authority of State of Telangana (EAST)
Government appointed a task force on monitoring and evaluation, as part to provide efficient, effective, responsive and responsible governance. in this connection, a separate authority is proposed to be created for effective evaluation of flagship programmes, through an independent agency, on the lines of Karnataka model. It is proposed to setup Evaluation authority of State of Telangana (EAST), in this regard.
